Physical Activity and Wellbeing

Here at Keen Kiddies we are strong advocates for children to be active and healthy.
A child’s work is play, and being active and free to move every day is the most important foundation for that work! In the first five years, more physical skills are learnt than any other stage in life. At Keen Kiddies we foster this by consistently promoting healthy habits throughout our days to give children every opportunity to be physically active and stay healthy.

Whether inside or outside, our children are encouraged to participate in numerous physically active experiences and opportunities. Our Educators plan time for unstructured exploration and play, and structured play involving games and movement experiences, with a focus on physical activity, the development of fundamental movement skills and gross motor development.

SunSmart

Keen Kiddies is a ‘Proudly SunSmart’ centre. Our Keen Educators all wear SunSmart hats and clothing and actively promote sun safe practices.

Sunscreen stations are set up within all Keen Kiddies rooms, and sunscreen is applied before going outside and reapplied where necessary. In accordance with our SunSmart policy, all children also wear wide brimmed hats, and protective clothing (shoulders covered).

UV Widget from Sun Smart

UV radiation cannot be seen or felt. It is not like the sun’s light which we see, or the sun’s warmth (infrared radiation) which we feel. This means it can be damaging to our skin without us knowing.

The free SunSmart widget takes away the guesswork when it comes to knowing UV levels. It uses forecast information from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and live UV data from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) to provide sun protection times for more than 600 locations across Australia.” - Sun Smart.
